We kicked off our 2013 touring season at Harrow CC at the launch of the Natwest CricketForce 2013 campaign.
Joining the hard-working volunteers were England Captains Alistair Cook and Charlotte Edwards who, armed with paintbrushes and tools, helped replace decking outside the clubhouse, refurbish the female changing rooms and create new planting areas around the club.
We took along the ECB Cricket Factory rig and set up our Bannerzone and ECB Cricket Factory Core Skill Set for volunteers and their families to use throughout the day.
The club supplied some fantastic female coaches who did a brilliant job on the day working with the participants.
Also joining the fun was London Mayor Boris Johnson who got stuck into the catching challenge on the rig.
Summing up the days efforts in his speech later during the day, Mr Johnson said: “Grassroots sports are at the heart of communities across London, so it’s fantastic to see thousands of local volunteers digging in and supporting their local clubs. This is exactly the sort of campaign which will help us build on the enormous enthusiasm for volunteering and sports which swept the nation during London 2012. Our long-awaited summer will ring with the sound of leather on willow at beautifully tendered grounds thanks to the hard work of NatWest CricketForce volunteers.”
