The Altcar Army Careers Event was a fantastic event where local schools and colleges were invited to come along and experience the careers and opportunities on offer in the armed services that perhaps they were unaware of.
The ECB Cricket Factory Roadshow was involved and raising awareness of the army cricket team who tour the world playing in international competitions.
Luckily for us we were in a marquee as the weather has not been kind recently. However, there was a great atmosphere at the event and we loved the competitive spirit of the armed forces guys who were testing their skills and having real fun with the throwing, catching and batting challenges presented on the ECB Cricket Factory rig. The groups of visiting Sixteen plus students were equally competitive especially when challenged be various sergents who routinely stopped to try the speed throw.
An impressive army band was playing at the event and really helped keep the spirits high with their fantastic take on modern pop songs – not what we were expecting from them and a real pleasant surprise.
Big thanks go to Dave, Mark, James and Chris who were our Lancashire Cricket Board Coaches on the day and did a great job.
And big thanks also to all the military personnel involved who helped us set up and take down the rig afterwards, it was a real treat for our team to have so much assistance.
