Working alongside Somerset CCC and their neighbouring minor county Dorset we were lucky to be on the beach during Armed Forces Weekend, while just behind us along the promenade the veterans marched alongside cadets, military marching bands and a fantastic display of vintage military vehicles.
The weather made it a perfect day to visit the coast and by midday the beach was absolutely packed with locals and holiday makers. Families repeated visits throughout the day to see if they could beat their scores. One young local girl who had never played cricket before even decided she loved it that much that she would be joining her nearest club in Weymouth this week.
Somerset CCC again brought their promotional marquee and materials and were on hand to answer any cricket related questions they were presented with during the day. ‘Stumpy’ as always was a huge attraction with the young visitors and made appearances throughout the afternoon.
